One of the problems with data logging is that if a key has no no reference within its definition, there is no way of knowing wwhich key has been selected. So, developing a template Page, which contains information that can be logged, is useful. Four possible Page configurations are possible. The example here is of a 15-location Page. Each key contains the following message:
<TEXT-MARKER>RxCx<DEL-WORD>
Where x and y are the appropriate row or column numbers. The <DEL-WORD> function simply ensures that nothing appears on the Vantage display.
The effect of this is to ensure that if the key does NOT contain a vocabulary item, it is logged as a co-ordinate when used. This is because information on the errors that a client makes can be just as instructive as correct selections. The generic message above is an example of a tool that can be used to provide feedback of a very specific nature.
