A common and seemingly intuitive approach to providing voice output communication on an AAC device is to use sentences. When working with clients who have multilingual needs, the idea of having the same sentence available in more than one language is appealing.
This approach could be thought of a the “Phrase Book” method, based on the way in which phrase books for travelers are constructed. In these, lists of sentences appear in the individual’s native language, with an alternative language form next to each.
