Add a "buffer" to
the Pathfinder
Some ex-Liberator folks have missed something called the "buffer."
This was a feature whereby hitting CLEAR DISPLAY didn't really "clear
the display." Instead, it would push the text off the top of the
screen leaving a fresh display. However, the text hadn't gone for good
but could be found again by using an UP ARROW to scroll back.
One problem with this was that folks could have their privacy invaded
by other people who might get hold of their device and scroll back to
see what they had been saying. Liberator had a special command called
CLEAR BUFFER that would actually get rid of all the text - period.
In Pathfinder, the CLEAR DISPLAY command is really a CLEAR BUFFER and
erases all the text so no-one can get to it. However, some folks miss
the old way of doing things and like to have the option to scroll back
through the text. So here is a macro that mimics the old buffer.
It may have some limitiation - I haven't tested it in EVERY situation
over WEEKS of testing, but it appears to work.
1. Choose where you want your BUFFER macro to work. You might want to
assign it as a KEY instead of your CLEAR DISPLAY, but I would also recommend
you keep a regular CLEAR DISPLAY around. I used location E8 in Unity because
it is blank.
You might want to have your BUFFER macro work in MINSPEAK MODE as a
MINSPEAK ASSIGNMENT where your current CLEAR DISPLAY is, but leave your
SPELL MODE ASSIGNMENT as the regular CLEAR DISPLAY.
2. Remove the keyguard and overlay so you can see the TOOLBOX overlay.
Then, hit the TOOLS key that is just under the ON/OFF switch. The TOOLS
key will show a red light next to it and the Pathfinder keyboard lights
will go off.
3. Store the following:
What you do
|
On the screen you see:
|
Press the "Assign Key" button
 then location E8.
On the keyboard, this
is the picture of the Windows flag on the bottom row.
|

|
Select the "Minspeak Assignment" key to see...
|

|
Press the "Assign Key As:" button until you see the
word TOOL in the box.
|

|
Hit the "Enter Assignment" key and you will see a blank
screen like this...
|

|
Hit the "Insert Tool" button. You will see the first
page of many pages that list special tools and functions. Hit the
"More Items" key to find BLOCK MARK.
|

|
When you find BLOCK MARK, select it.
|

|
The special function <BLOCK-MARK> is now in the window.
You now need to add more special functions. Again, hit the "Insert
Tool" button.
|

|
Hit the "More Items" key until you find the DOWN button,
then select it.
|

|
Now you have added a <DOWN> function to the list. Go through
the steps of "Insert Tool" and DOWN for seven more times.
|

|
You should end up with eight <DOWN> functions on the screen,
like this...
|

|
Press the "Return" key on the keyboard eight times.
If you are using the smallest font size, it should push your current
functions off the top of the screen.
|

|
Hit the "Insert Tool" button, then "Prev Items"
until you find the UP key. Select this and then repeat the process
six more times. You should end up like this...
|

|
Press the "OK" button three times until you are out
of the Toolbox.
You have now stored the BUFFER.
|
|
So what does this do? Well, it has the effect of pushing your current
text off the screen, but if you hit your UP ARROW, you can scroll back
to see what has gone on before.
It still needs a little work perhaps, because if you scroll back, then
hit the BUFFER macro again, it deletes all the text that FOLLOWS your
cursor. I haven't thought of a way round that just yet.
Let me know if this works for you. If you have any ideas on how to improve
it, drop me an e-mail.
