Calculator:"To Speak or Not To Speak."

By default, the Calculator will speak as you select numbers. However, you may want to have it so that you can use it quietly. You can do this by modifying how the Caculator is called up. If you follow the steps below, you will find that the Calculator speaks if your SPEECH is ON, but is quiet if your SPEECH is OFF.

Select the "Activity" menu from the Toolbox.

Choose option 5, "Modify Activity."

Now choose the "Deskmate" Activity, which is where the Calculator is stored.

Choose 5, "Modify Item Within Activity."

With the "Calc" already highlighted, choose "Spell Text for Message." If the "Calc" key isn't highlighted, touch that key first.

The <CALCULATOR> function is already there. You are going to add something to this.

Select the UP ARROW to move your cursor to be in front of the <CALCULATOR> function, then hit "Insert Tool" as illustrated above.

Use option 7, the "More Items" key to step through until you see the "CTRL" function. Press this.

Now you should see the <CTRL> has been added in front of the <CALCULATOR>. This is the magic function that will make your calculator be quiet if SPEECH is OFF!

Keep pressing the OK key until you are out of the Toolbox.

Congratulations! Now if you open your Calculator and your SPEECH is OFF, it won't be heard.
