Adding Mouse commands to your AQLS AlphaBetic program

So you have AQLS AlphaBetic and want to be able to control a mouse on a computer screen. The problem is that when it was developed, the aim was to provide computer commands via keyboard shortcuts because moving a mouse takes time. For the client with limited movement, this makes sense.

However, there are some folks who still want to have access to mouse control and have found that the COMPUTER MODE in Unity offers this but AQLS AlphaBetic doesn't.

One option is to take the clear color-highlighted computer access overlay that comes with the Pathfinder and drop it on to you AQLS overlay. Then, you program each computer command for each key in COMPUTER MODE. The down side of this is that it will take some time.

The second option is to use a couple of special macros that will save you significant reprogramming time. Here are step-by-step instructions on what to do.

STAGE ONE: Loading and Modifying the Unity Mouse Movements

1: Go to the SYSTEM MENU and select "User Area."

2: Press "Switch User Area" and go to an unused Area.

3: Select "Overlay Menu" followed by "Load PF Unity 128 Single Hit." This will load the regular Unity single-hit vocabulary into that user area, and this includes the COMPUTER MODE keys for mouse movement.

4: Press "OK" until you are out of the SYSTEM MENU.

5: Go back into the SYSTEM MENU and choose "Assign Key."

6: Select key F8, the "Spell/Minspeak" key on your AQLS overlay.

7: Choose "Computer Assignment." You will see <GO-TO-MINSPEAK> on the display.

8: Select "Insert Tool."

9: Hit the "More Items" key until you get to a key saying "User Area Menu." Press it.

10: Type in a number "1" followed by the number of the User Area where your AQLS program is stored. Typically it is in User Area 1, so just type another "1."

11: Type a number "8" to end the modifications, then hit the "OK" key to get out of the "Assign Key" menu. Here's what is should look like if you've done the steps above:

STAGE 2: Setting AQLS to use the Mouse Movements

1: Change User Area to AQLS AlphaBetic.

2. Choose "Store Core" in the SYSTEM MENU.

3. Select "X"(E7) and "SPACE" (I8) followed by "OK."

4. Select "Spell Text for Message."

5: Select "Insert Tool."

6: Hit the "More Items" key until you get to a key saying "User Area Menu." Press it.

10: Type in a number "1" followed by the number of the User Area where you have just loaded "Unity 128 Single Hit."

11. Select "Insert Tool" and then "More Items" to select GO TO COMPUTER.

12. Select "Insert Tool" and then "More Items" to select SERIAL ON.

13. Hit "OK" and you're all set!

Now you can hit X + SPACE to get into Mouse Movements, then hit "Spell/Minspeak" to get back to AQLS.

Notice that the "Spell/Minspeak" key has OPTION on the computer emulation overlay. You have sacrificed this temporarily. If you need this key, you need to reprogram it under a COMPUTER MODE assignment for another key - the "ALL" key is free.
