Web surfer

Here's a special Activity called "Web Surfer" that you can add to your Pathfinder. After you download into User Area 6, you'll find two Activities - one called "Web Surfer" and the other called "URL Picker." You need to copy BOTH into the area that you want to use them in.

Then you should HIDE the "URL Picker" activity. Don't worry - it is still there and you can get at it by using a link in the "Web Surfer" activity.

Here's what you should see as the 'Start Button' for web surfing:

When you press this key, you'll see the first row of navigation keys:

BACK
FORWARD
TAB
ENTER
UP
DOWN
BOOKMARK
MORE

So what do these keys do?

  • BACK takes you back a page in your browser

  • FORWARD takes you forward a page in your browser

  • TAB steps you through links on a page

  • ENTER is like pressing the Enter or Return key

  • UP scrolls you upwards on a page

  • DOWN scrolls you downwards on a page

  • BOOKMARK opens the Bookmark facility in Netscape

Pressing the MORE key gives you the second row of navigation keys:

SELECT ALL
COPY
PASTE
OPEN
CLOSE
FIND...
STOP
MORE

Now you want to know what these keys do, don't you?

  • SELECT ALL selects all the text on a page

  • COPY will copy any selected text

  • PASTE will paste any copied item into another program

  • OPEN will open a special window into which you can type a new address

  • CLOSE will close an open window

  • FIND... will open a box into which you can type a word. It will then look for that word on the page you are looking at

  • STOP will stop a page from loading

When you press the MORE key, you get to the third row:

GOOGLE
ALTAVISTA
LYCOS
EXCITE
ASKJEEVES
YAHOO
NORTHERN
MORE

Whoa! Pretty cool, eh? When you hit the key, watch your screen and as if by magic, a box opens, the site address appears, and bag -you're there!

When you've chosen you search engine, hit the BROWSER key at the end and you'll get back to the navigation keys.

OK, so now you know what is does, click below in the box that describes your browser program.
